Competition Rules

Tournament Organiser: Frank Travers

  1. LCBA League rules apply where applicable unless covered separately in these rules.
  2. All players must be members of the LCBA for the 2009/2010 season.
  3. The team captain is responsible for making sure all subscriptions are paid prior to playing (although we will accept “the cheque is in the post” unless it is the final match).
  4. Failure to pay subscriptions will result in all matches that that player participated in being deemed lost by default.
  5. Matches will take place at the County Bridge Club on the circulated dates, starting at 7.15 p.m.
  6. If a captain is unable to raise a team, he must contact the Tournament Organiser as soon as possible. He will have the option of playing the match privately with the agreement of the opposing captain (note table money is still due) or defaulting the match in accordance with the LCBA League rules.
  7. Matches to be teams of four played head-to-head over 24 boards and converted to Victory Points after application of appropriate handicaps.
  8. The handicap is based on EBU ranking as of December 2008 and the LCBA Winter League division that a player played the majority of their matches in the previous season.
  9. The County Club Tournament Sub-Committee reserves the right to award an alternative handicap where they feel the handicap rules are inappropriate.
  10. Should it become necessary to substitute a player part-way through a match then the handicap shall be the lower of the two for the players involved.
  11. There is no limit to the number of players that a team may field during the course of the competition.
  12. No player shall represent more than one team.
  13. Each player must provide a completed convention card to be made available to his opponents.
  14. This is a Level 4 competition. This list of conventions and agreements can be found in the EBU Orange Book and includes amendments published in English Bridge up to February 2009. Please note that a Orange Book changes comes into force on the 1st August, but this competition will continue to be played under the old version.
  15. The Tournament Organiser shall appoint a Tournament Director for the evening. In the absence of such a director (e.g. rearranged matches), then the “away” team captain shall be the director unless an agreement to the contrary is be made.
  16. All appeals shall be lodged with the Tournament Organiser within 24 hours either directly or by leaving a message on his answerphone (0116 2793212), who will then refer the matter to the County Club Tournament Sub-committee.
